Vanilla & Cardamom Cold Brew

Makes 4, 8oz glasses

INGREDIENTS

2/3 cup ground coffee (medium-dark roast)

1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

1-3 teaspoons vanilla extract, depending on your preference, optional

~7 cardamom pods, crushed open, optional

4 cups water

Simple syrup, optional [combine equal parts boiling water and sugar and mix until the sugar dissolves completely]

Milk, for serving

METHOD

  1. To a french press or pitcher, add the ground coffee, salt, vanilla, cardamom, and water, and stir until all the coffee grounds are hydrated.

  2. Place in the fridge for 10-24 hours. The longer it sits, the stronger the coffee.

  3. Strain out the coffee grounds. To sweeten the cold brew, add simple syrup and stir. I use a scant 1/4 cup of simple syrup (1/4 cup sugar + 1/4 cup boiling water).

  4. Serve the cold brew in tall glasses over ice with a splash of heavy cream.
